Assistant Director, Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute, Harvard University
The Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute, Harvard University is seeking a talented and committed Assistant Director to join its Cambridge team.
Operations: Responsible for overall office administration, including developing and implementing office policies, procedures and systems; handling office space needs and issues as team and programs expand into South Asia including being the point of contact for Harvard Global in dealing with operational issues impacting LMSAI’s new office in Delhi India; dealing with IT service needs and issues. Evaluate processes and ensure compliance with University, governmental, and grantor policies.
Program Management: Oversee program and project management and budgeting for student programs, events, communication, fellows programs and other projects as they arise. Stay in regular communication with program managers for projects in India to monitor projects. Ensure coordination among team members; resolve complex problems; ensure monitoring and evaluation protocols followed for accountability and continuous improvement
Human Resources: Directly supervise 2 non-exempt staff members in US and co-supervise 1 exempt staff member in India, as well as a large group of interns, affiliates, contractors and students. Responsibilities include performance management, position tracking, and working with Executive Director and Director of Finance and Administration on complex hiring issues for staff and academic appointments. [Finance Office handles payroll and appointments] is the point of contact for Global Support Services and Harvard Global for staff issues in overseas programs.
Budget: Responsible for program-level budgeting, including budget design, reconciliation and management for funds in US and India. Work with Director of Finance and Financial Team in Cambridge and Grants Manager and staff in India to keep programmatic budgets up-to-date and aligned with overall budget of the unit. Work with Sponsored Programs Offices at Harvard and Harvard Global on grants tracking, management and reconciliation.
Strategic Planning: Support Executive Director (ED) and Faculty Director in strategic planning (e.g. gather data, prepare reports, make recommendations), including representing ED with particular internal and external constituencies.
Fundraising: Manage donor stewardship and fundraising activities, in support of Executive and Faculty Director; anticipate needs for documents and data to cultivate and steward donors. Plan and execute activities to ensure donors feel valued and receive information on gift’s impact.
